THOMAS J. PRICE
Thomas J. Price was born in Rush county, Ind., April 9, 1836, and emigrated to Iowa in 1842, living near Milton in Jackson twp. until 1883, when he with his present wife moved to Upton, Ia.
On Aug. 12, 1860 he was united in marriage to Miss Annie Robison, she living only about three months and on Aug. 12, 1864 he was again married to Miss Elizabeth Newby. To this union were born six children, one died at the age of ten years and another at five. There are still living Mary Ewing, Carthage, Ind., Mattie Brookhart, Arbela, Mo., Emma Ecelbery, Albany, Ill., Josie Tice, Carthage, Ind., and Lizzie Leverton, Milton, Iowa. The wife and mother of these children died May 11, 1876 and on Nov. 4, 1883 he was married to his now bereaved wife, who with the children are left on the shore of time.
In an early day he united with the Christian church at Egypt in Jackson twp and remained a member of that church until coming to Upton, there being no church there of that denomination he came into the M. E. church, having a home and a place in the church here, which cannot be filled again. Uncle Tommy, as we all knew him, was a dear soldier of the cross and was of a quite [sic] disposition and everybody's friend, loved the church and the good and hated evil.
He was taken sick about ten days ago with la grippe and quietly passed away Wednesday afternoon Feb. 19, 1908, aged 71 years, 7 months and 10 days. Funeral services were conducted from the home and at the Methodist church at Upton by Rev. H. F. Gilbert, Feb. 21, 1908.
