JOHN M. BONNER

John M. Bonner was born May 30, 1846, near Allegheny, Pa., and died in Moulton, Iowa, March 26, 1907, aged 60 years, 9 months and 27 days. He was married to Miss J. Eliza Bennett June 28, 1870. To this union three children were born, the first born dying in infancy. Two, Glenn and Fannie, survive and were with the father from the time of their birth until he was laid away in the grave by the side of wife and mother in the Purdom cemetery at Keosauqua, Friday March 29. Keosauqua was the home of the deceased until he moved with his children to Moulton in 1898. He was a good man and was respected by all who knew him. Here at Keosauqua he is mourned as he is at Moulton. He was a member of the Methodist church, was an Odd Fellow and a G. A. R. Funeral services were held at Moulton, and the remains were brought to Keosauqua, accompanied by his son and daughter and an escort of Odd Fellows and G. A. R. members. At Keosauqua services were held at the grave, conducted by the I. O. O. F. In speaking of Mr. Bonner's death the Moulton paper says: "The remains were taken to Keosauqua for burial alongside of the good wife who passed away in 1895. Bonner & Son moved from Keosauqua to Moulton in 1898, and engaged in the grocery business in which line they built up a large patronage. Comrade Bonner belonged to the Western army in the civil war and most of his campaigning was done on the extreme frontier among the Indians. Retiring to the pursuits of a business man he took up merchandising in Keosauqua where he was married and where he lived until coming to Moulton. The community and the nation regret alike the passing of such clean-cut veterans. Their history and lives will always be a worthy example for American manhood."
