Death of Mrs. Joshua Reniker

Susan Viola Sampson Reneker came to brighten the home of Sylvester and Matilda Sampson on May 23, 1864 (?), in Clarke County, near Osceola, Iowa. There she grew to womanhood and was converted in the United Methodist church. On Christmas Day, 1892, she was united in marriage to Joshua Reneker. This union was blessed with six children, two daughters, Daisy and Esther, and four sons, Glen B., Raymond, Paul and Joshua Jr.

Susan Viola departed this life Sunday morning, October 10th, at 10 o'clock, aged 51 years, 4 months and (?) days, after suffering considerably for the past year. She was blest with consciensness to the very last, and realized her end was near. She was hopeful, resigned and feared not. She said she had lived and suffered long enoughh and was ready to go. One by one the children were brought to her by the bereft husband, and she counsilled them to speak the truth, be honest and live an upright life. Then calmly she said goodbye to all, more composed by far than those bereft. In the last days and hours she delighted in visitation of relatives and friends and felt comforted by their presence.

Besides the bereaved husband and children, there are left to mourn her departure her mother, Mrs. Matilda Sampson, six sisters and two brothers, of whom the mother, Mrs. Chas. Clifton and Mary E. Sampson of Osceola, and Mrs. Geo. Morrow of this community were present.

Services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Zion Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. C.A. Sundberg of Ottumwa, and the music furnished by the Lutheran choir. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church.
