OBITUARIES
Oliver W. Bradford

Oliver William Bradford was born in Indiana, Sept. 21, 1831, and died at his home in Cedar township, Van Buren Co., Iowa, Feb. 22, 1907, aged 75 years, 5 months and 1 day. He came to Van Buren county, Iowa, in the fall of 1846, settling with his parents in Cedar township with in less than a mile of where he died, and that township has since been his home, his residence here dating with the organization of Iowa as a state. On Nov. 29, 1861, he was united in marriage with Nancy A. Peckham, who died many years ago. To this union ten children were born, seven of whom are living, viz, Horace M., Laura J. Bundy, Corwin, Oren R., Randall P., Florence J. Silver and Pierce S. On Sept 4, 1881, he married Emily H. Frame, who survives. Mr. Bradford served faithfully his country during the war of the rebellion as a member of Co. F, Fourteenth Iowa Infantry, and at the battle of Shiloh, after his regiment fought until surrendered in the "Hornet's Nest", he was taken prisoner with many others of the gallant Fourteenth. Later he was exchanged and returned to his regiment to serve until the close of the war. He was a good man and was universally respected. He attended strictly to his own business and never had anything but kind words for his neighbors and acquaintances. He will be missed and mourned in the old home community. The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 25, at the M.E. church in Stockport, Rev. Starr being in charge of the services, which were largely attended. The burial was in the Spencer cemetery.
