JAMES CAMPBELL

James Campbell was born in Hancock county, Va., Sept. 30, 1836, and died at his home near Birmingham, Van Buren county, Iowa, Nov. 13, 1903, at the age of 67 years, 1 month and 13 days. Mr. Campbell came to Iowa and to this county in April 1842 and on April 23, 1868, he married Miss Anna Work, daughter of the late Hon. Joseph A. Work. To them five chldren were born, who with the wife and mother survive the husband and father for whom they now mourn. For some time and up to about thirty years ago, Mr. Campbell kept store in Mt. Zion, dealing also in grain. Later he moved with his family to a farm near Birmingham where he resided the remainder of his life. He was the father of Mrs. Dr. Snyder of Keosauqua who has, for several weeks, been confined to her bed with typhoid fever. Mr. Campbell was a good man and was held in high esteem by his neighbors. The funeral was held last Saturday, Rev. Ward of Mt. Zion preaching the discourse, the burial being in the Miller Chapel cemetery three miles west of Utica.
