JOHN SILVER
John E. Silver, a prominent farmer living northeast of Cantril, attempted suicide last Friday morning at about 9 a.m. by hanging. Mr. Silver had been making some changes and trades, recently trading for the Sexton bakery and restaurant at this place, and it is thought some of the trades worried him and unbalanced his mind. His family had been watching him for the past week thinking that he might make an attempt at his life. On Friday morning he and hired man were ringing hogs when he cut his hand. The help was sent to the house for a rag and while gone Mr. Silver went to the buggy shed and tried to hang himself. He was soon found by the family and cut down, physicians from Cantril summoned and after hard work was finally brought to life. When found he was unconscious and although everything possible was done for him, he passed away the next day at about 12 o'clock. Mr. Silver was one of the good men of the county, a kind neighbor and well fixed financially and the occurrence is much regretted by his family and friends.
