George Byron Forbes

George Byron Forbes, 59, of 53 Sixth East street, a veteran post office clerk, died Thursday at 3:25 p. m., while at work in the Salt Lake post office, of a heart attack.

Mr. Forbes was born on a farm near Keosauqua, Iowa, February 18, 1880, a son of Andrew and Eura Patterson Forbes. At the age of 14 he moved to Saguache, Colo., with his parents, where his father operated a large sheep ranch. He married Bernadine Thorsell of Kansas City, Mo., teacher at Saguache, June 29, 1911.

The following year Mr. and Mrs. Forbes moved to Salt Lake City, and for five years operated an ice cream business. He entered the postal service November 1, 1917, and had worked in the post office ever since.

He was a member of the Utah Conservation and Research foundation, the National Federation of Post Office Clerks and the Sportsman’s club. He attended the First Congregational church.

He is survived by his widow; a son, Robert Thorsell Forbes, a student at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, Cal; a daughter, Mary Caroline Forbes, a student at the University of Utah, and a brother, Grover C. Forbes of Salt Lake City.
