OBITUARY.

MARY A. DAVENPORT was born in Washington county, Ohio, May 12th, 1819, and died at the home of her son Frank Christy in Birmingham June 14, 1906, aged 87 years, 1 month and 2 days.

Deceased was united in marriage in Washington county, Ohio, in 1839 to James Boyd, and together they came to Iowa in the fall of 1842, settling in Lick Creek township and together sharing the trials and privations of a pioneer life. There were five children born to this union. One died in infancy, two sons died after reaching maturity, and two sons Stephen Boyd of Lick Creek township, and James K. P. Boyd of Mitchell county, Kansas, survive her. The husband died in 1847.

She was again united in marriage in 1849 to James Christy, who died Sept. 29 1877. Two children – a daughter and son, resulted from this union, the daughter dying at the age of four years, Frank residing in Birmingham, at whose home the mother lived and was tenderly cared for until her death.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years, but in after life there being no church of that denomination near her she united with the Methodists, and died as she had lived a faithful follower of her Master.

Last fall, while visiting at the home of her son Stephen, she fell and badly injured her hip. Though no bones were broken she has since been an invalid, the fall causing contraction of the joints, but the real cause of her death was the infirmaties [sic] of old age.

Short services were held at the home Friday at 11 a.m. and the remains were taken to White Chapel, in the old neighborhood where she had lived so many years, the funeral services held at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Morgan, and she was laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining, where the loved ones gone before are buried.
