Ruth E. Shipley was born in Tennessee, July 20, 1832. She died at her home in Keosauqua, April 14, 1906, aged 73 years, 8 months and 28 days, when her life in this world was ended. She was brought by her parents to Van Buren County in 1833, and most of her life was spent in this county. In 1855 she was married to ROBERT FORBES. One child blessed this union, a daughter, Mattie, who died when quite young. Mr. FORBES died in 1888. For most of her widowhood Mrs. Forbes has lived in the house in which he died. When quite young she united with the Presbyterian and later with the Christian Church and all her life she was a fauthful [sic], earnest Christian. She leaves to mourn her departure, two brothers and two sisters, besides a host of near and dear relatives and friends. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday of this week at the Congregational Church in Keosauqua, the services in charge of Rev. O. E. Perkins, assisted by Eld. Wheeler. The interment was in the Forbes cemetery, near the home and on the farm between here and Mt. Zion where she and her husband resided during their married life. A good woman has gone. (She raised the family of ROBERT FORBES and ELIZABETH HOUK, including grandfather, ANDREW FORBES.)
