James H. Murphy was born in St. Louis, Mo., March 12, 1839, and died Thursday morning, May 25, 1899, having lived 60 years, 2 months and 13 days.
While an infant his parents moved to Iowa where he has resided ever since. He was married to Miss Mary W. Wyer, May 12, 1859, at Athens, Mo. This union was blessed by ten children, three having gone to rest leaving seven children and wife to mourn the loss of their dear father and husband. Six brothers and three sisters, beside his many friends, also remain.
He united with the Baptist church in 1873, and was one of the faithful members from that time to the end; and not afraid of death. The funeral services were held at the Bonaparte Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Radclift, of Farmington, Sunday morning, May 28th. The sermon was an eloquent, and affecting one, from John 11, 25th verse: "He that believeth in me though he were dead, yet shall he live." The pall bearers were James Bridge, A. Kight, C. C. Steadman, D. W. Riggle, John Brown and D. Derr.
