Richard Perkins

KEOSAUQUA -- Dr. C. R. "Dick" Perkins, 85, retired Keosauqua dentist, died July 29, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center, Iowa City.

He was born March 28, 1917, at Mount Zion to Clem and Lucinda Miller Perkins. He married Betty Ovrom May 8, 1943, in Reno, Nev.

He graduated from Keosauqua High School and the University of Iowa and its College of Dentistry. He served as a dental officer in the U.S. Navy in California and Hawaii during World War II and practiced many years in Keosauqua. He owned and Perkins Land Co. and operated several farms in Van Buren County. He was an active member of Keosauqua Congregational Church and served in church offices, was a member of Purdom Cemetery Board and served on the Keosauqua school board.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Dr. Richard A. Perkins of Iowa City; two daughters, Janie Beach of Minneapolis, Minn., and Dr. Judy Strauss of South Pasadena, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Dotty Grissom of Northridge, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a son, Fred Perkins; and a sister, Evelyn Rizk.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Keosauqua Congregational Church, with the Rev. Charles McCracken and the Rev. Harold Schnedler officiating. Burial will be in Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) in Pedrick Funeral Home with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorials to Keosauqua Congregational Church or Purdom Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 219, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.
