DIED AT SALEM

On Sunday morning, June 3, 1900, at his home in Salem, Iowa, occurred the death of Wm. Caldwell McDonald, aged fifty years, five months and nineteen days. He was born on the home farm in Harrisburg township, this county. He was a farmer by occupation and at one time owned the farm Sam Rabb farm on the south side of the river. His health began to fail him and he sold his farm and moved to Salem. He was married to Miss Mattie Ingram, of Salem, March 13, 1889. The near relatives who feel their loss deeply are his wife, three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Jas. Dick, of Big Mound, Miss Mattie McDonald and Archa McDonald, of Bonaparte, Mrs. Chas. Rau, of Mason City, Ia., Chas. McDonald, of Council Bluffs, and Robt. McDonald, of Harrisburg.

Some two years since he was taken sick with Bright's disease, which caused his death. For the last year his case has been considerably critical. Although he was able to move about the house and yard, and has made two visits recently to the home farm, the last one being three weeks ago. He was only confined to his bed four days before his death. Being a member of the Congregational church, of Salem, his pastor, Rev. Drew, conducted the services at the church. The interment took place at Bayles cemetery and his body was laid to rest beside those of his father, mother and three sisters. He was known to be an honest, upright man.

This bereavement came doubly hard upon these sisters and brothers, as they were called upon only a short time ago to give up their mother.

The pall bearers were his two brothers, Archie and Robt., and four nephews, Will, Chas., Robt. and Archie Dick. C. W. McDonald and Chas. Rau were not present on account of sickness in their own homes. A great many of the neighbors and friends, of Bonaparte and Harrisburg, were at the cemetery to pay a last tribute of respect to one they knew and loved so well. By request an opportunity was given these friends to view the remains.
