Mrs. Theresa Sherod
Mrs. Linford Sherod died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alva Arnold near Mt. Zion, Iowa, Saturday, December 5, 1942, at 3 p. m. from a cold and old age.
Funeral services were held at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church, Monday, December 7, at 2 p. m. conducted by Rev. R. C. Irvine. Burial in Millers Chapel cemetery.
Theresa Barker, youngest child of Joseph and Anna Barker, was born near Mt. Zion, Iowa, November 21, 1850, and died December 5, 1942, aged 92 years, 14 days. She was the last survivor of 15 children. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Worthy Arnold and Mrs. Weltha Wolf, both of near Keosauqua, Iowa, several grandchildren and a large number of other relatives. She was familiarly known as “Aunt Thess” to all of her relatives and friends.
Mrs. Sherod’s grandfather was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. It is said that Mrs. Sherod was the last granddaughter of a Revolutionary soldier in the state of Iowa.
In early life she united with the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church of which she has been a consistent and true member her entire life.
Music for the funeral service was furnished by the Williams Bros. quartet, Mrs. Florence Campbell, accompanist. The pallbearers were Kenneth Barker, C. P. Barker, Arnold Barker, Conley Nelson, Earle Murphy and Hugh Barker.
