Mr. John Corwin, youngest son of Jacob and Sarah Corwin, was born in Harrisburg township, Lee County, Iowa, Nov. 19, 1878. When still an infant his parents moved to Farmington, hence nearly his whole life was spent here where he was well-known and a general favorite among his acquaintances. He went to Kansas in March 1900 where he remained for nearly eleven months. He became overheated while fighting a prairie fire and then getting wet he lost his voice from which he never recovered, and aggravated the disease which culminated in his death 10:45 P.M. at the age of 22 yrs. 7 mo. 10 days June 29, 1901. He had been in poor health for a year and six months being confined to his bed for several weeks. He leaves to mourn his early departure his father and mother one brother and two sisters, besides a host of sorrowing and sympathizing friends. John bore his sufferings patiently and died triumphant in the faith. Rev. A. W. Ihde of Leoti Kans. certifies to his being converted Nov. 19 1900, and recommended him to any church as a true Christian. But better than that we know by his own confession by his eager desire for the truth, by his confidence in prayer and by his sweet christian resignation that he possessed the secret of true peace and rest. He has gone and we shall miss him, but we would not wish him back from the bosom of the Good Shepherd to this world of sin and suffering. May it rather be ours to follow him through faith in Jesus as Savior to the home of the blessed.

Funeral services were conducted at the home July 1, 1901 by pastor Thos. Ratcliffe assisted by Revs. Jas. McKiernan and Geo. H. Wehn. The body was tenderly laid to rest by the side of his sister and two brothers in Farmington cemetery.
