Elizabeth Milligan was born December 15, 1823 in Washington Co., Pa., and died July 28, 1899, at Bonaparte, Ia., having lived 75 years, 7 months and 13 days.
In the summer of 1844, she and two of her brothers came to Warren Co., Ill. There she was married to John Cresswell Oct. 1, 1846. Six children were born to them, three of whom survive her; Mrs. Jennie Colton, of Farmington, H. C. Cresswell and Mrs. Stella Gilbert, of Bonaparte.
The family removed to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in 1857 and thence to Bonaparte in September, 1860.
In early life she united with the United Presbyterian church, retaining membership therein until she left Mt. Pleasant. She was one of the original members of the Presbyterian church of Bonaparte, the last one to survive. She was true in all relations of life. Kind and beloved, her memory is exceedingly precious to those who knew her. She has gone to her great reward. Her mortal remains were reposed in the Bonaparte cemetery after appropriate services conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. H. Scofield, in the Presbyterian church, Sunday July 30, 1899.
