L. Canaday rites set

Services for Lloyd E. Canaday, 62, 307 E. Adams Street, will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m., at the Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham. The Rev. David Kennedy will officiate with interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be by the Birmingham American Legion Post 181.

The family will meet tonight with friends from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Canaday died Thursday morning at Jefferson County Hospital after a lengthy illness.

The son of Elmer and Edna Jackson Canaday, he was born Nov. 23, 1915 at Birmingham. He was married to Sarah Bunker on June 21, 1939 at Fairfield, Calif. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Allan Canaday, California; his mother, Edna Canaday, Birmingham; four brothers, Earl Canaday, Birmingham, Dean Canaday, Fairfield, Robert Canaday, DeWitt, John Canaday, Boulder, Colo.; one sister, Karen Snyder, Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and one sister.

Canaday retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service then was employed by the State of California for 15 years. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve of Ottumwa and the Walton Club of Fairfield.
