Canaday Rites at Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM – Clifford E. Canaday, 51, native of the Birmingham Community died about noon Monday of a heart attack in Virginia Beach, Va., where he had made his home the past eight years.
The casket is scheduled to arrive at the Catcott Funeral Home in Keosauqua Wednesday and last rites will be held Friday at 2 p.m. At the Birmingham United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham.
He retired recently as hospitalman chief after spending 27 years in the U.S. Navy. He was manager of the Navy Riding Stables near the Naval Base at the time of death.
Clifford E. Canaday was born Dec. 25, 1920, near Birmingham, the son of Elmer and Edna Jackson Canaday. He was married June 28, 1946, to Byria Jean Freshwater. He was a graduate of the Birmingham High School and a veteran of World War II.
In addition to his widow, Canaday is survived by one son, Jerry, 18, at home; one daughter, Deborah, student at Madison College, Harrisburg, Va.; his mother, Mrs. Edna Canaday; one sister, Mrs. Karen Snyder, Birmingham; four brothers, Earle, Birmingham; Lloyd, Fairfield; John Boulder, Colo.; and Dean, Princeton, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.
