LIBERTYVILLE -- Death of Giles PURYEAR; burial in Fell Cemetery.

----

"Fairfield Tribune", Wed., Aug. 23, 1899, Pg. 2, Col. 4

Gilas PURYEAR, of Liberty Township, while digging a well upon the farm of Henry Saladay, near Krum, Friday, met with his death in a strange way. It appears that he had gone down to the bottom of a 40 foot well and discovering that it contained black damp, he gave the signal to be hoisted to the top. When nearing the top the fresh air struck him suddenly and he became unconscious and fell to the bottom of the well, sustaining such injuries that he died within a half hour after being brought to the surface. He was a man of 41 years of age and a hard worker and the only support of a widowed mother. He was born in Van Buren County, and had lived all his life in that county and Jefferson. The funeral occurred Saturday, when the remains were buried in Fell Cemetery.
