LESLIE E. SIMMONS

Leslie E. Simmons, 74, passed away at 12:45 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Van Buren County Nursing home, Keosauqua.

The son of Michael and Della Simmons [nee Johnson], he was born August 31, 1897 in Van Buren county. He married Ruth Thieme on August 24, 1921, in Ft. Madison. She survives.

Mr. Simmons farmed in the New London area until 1961 when he retired and moved to Farmington.

He is also survived by one son, Robert A., Westland, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Frances Apple [sic: Appel] , Burlington; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1, at the Elliott Chapel, New London. The Rev. Curtis McDonald officiated. Burial was in Burge cemetery, New London.
