Elizabeth Holmes Luther
After a year's suffering during which time she was rarely able to help herself, Mrs. James Luther passed quietly away Friday Morning (26 Sept 1902). Sitting in the old arm chair by the window where she passed away so many weary hours, she quietly fell asleep-that sleep that knows no waking. elizabeth Holmes was born in Ohio, Nov 9, 1930, and with her parents came to Lee county in 1856, where she continously resided until some twenty years ago. July 4th, 1866, she was married to James Luther. About the time of her marriage she joined the Methodist Episcopal church and until her death she remained a faithful and exemplary member. She was a conscientious christian woman and delighted to honor her Faith. For years we passed Mrs. Luther's door and she was always that same kindly woman that every one delights to honor and respect. She loved her neighbors as herself and they one and all join in paying a just tribute to her many virtues. Besides the aged husband, now left alone to sorow over his greatest loss, Mrs. Luther left to revere her memory, her three children, Mrs I(Ira) B Boyer (Nellie), Mrs George Brassfield (Mary) of Farmington and her one sone Danie of Grand Junction, Iowa and her sister Mrs. Mitchell (Mary) of Ft Madison and a brother, George Holmes of Indiana. The funeral services were conducted from the M.E. church Sunday afternoon, conducted by her pastor the Reverend Geo. H. Wehn.
