Pedestrian dies after hit by car

A 34-year-old Fairfield woman was fatally injured when struck by a car as she walked near her Ranch Trailer Court home Friday night.

Barbara Harryman, Lot 64, was killed in the accident which injured a second pedestrian, Deborah Schuchman, 33, Route 1.

Harryman was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Medical Examiner Terry Cochran. Schuchman was transferred from Jefferson County Hospital by Air-Care helicopter and Clinics in Iowa City where she is reported in fair condition today.

Driver of the car which hit the women was Timothy R. Reighard, 22, Route 1. Reighard is being held in Jefferson County Jail on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Other charges are pending.

The accident occurred in the 1800 block on West Grimes Avenue at 11:20 p.m.

The women were said to be approaching the trailer court, crossing West Grimes toward the rear of the former Universal Producing Co. plant at 300 N. 16th St. They had spent the evening with friends to belatedly celebrate Harryman's birthday, which was Monday.

Harryman was the wife of Roy Harryman and the mother of three children, Stacey, 15, Nathan, 6, and Angela, 5. She was employed at the Ritam Corp.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Raymond Funeral Home.
