A rural Keosauqua man has died, apparently after hanging himself.
The Van Buren County Sheriff's officers were called to the Lester Matheson rural farm home late Sunday morning in reference to a possible suicide.
A search was started at 11:13 a.m. and Matheson's body was found in the barn. Dr. J.T. Worrell, Van Buren County Medical Examiner, was summoned and attributed Matheson's death to hanging.
Authorities said Matheson, 71, had been ill from cancer for sometime and left a note stating he could no longer endure the pain.
