Holiday turns tragic; one killed in accident

An Amarillo, Texas, woman died from the result of a one-car accident, July 4, 11:25 p.m., a quarter of a mile south of the Bentonsport bridge.

Kelly Anne Shark, 16, was transported to the Van Buren County Hospital where she was pronounced dead by the Van Buren County coroner Dr. J.T. Worrell.

Shark was a passenger in the car, driven by Gary Seth, 23, Farmington. Seth is in serious condition (from the latest report Wednesday) at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

According to the Van Buren Sheriff's Department, Seth was traveling north on J-40 and failed to negotiate a curve south of the Bentonsport Bridge. After traveling distance in the northbound ditch, the pickup truck over-turned throwing the driver and two occupants out of the vehicle.

Seh was transported to Van Buren Hospital and air lifted to Iowa City.

Frank Dale Hackard, 17, Farmington, was treated and released at the Van Buren Hospital.

The accident is still under investigation by Van Buren County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa Highway Patrol.
