A 60 year ago item in a sister newspaper caught our eye and we are sure some of our readers remember this sad happening.
60 YEARS AGO
Funeral services with military honors were held for John Kerr at the Prairie View Church three miles south of Cantril on Saturday, October 16th. It is estimated 2500 people were in attendance. He was killed in action in the Argonne Forest drive, September 8, 1918.
Four ex-servicemen were killed and one seriously burned when their car was struck by an engine at a crossing three miles east of Cantril Sunday afternoon about 4 o'clock. The men were returning from the John Kerr funeral. The dead were Charles Hyde, killed instantly; Ward Crutcher, cashier of the State Savings Bank of Cantril, who died in a few minutes; Arch Silvers, president of the Central Savings Bank of Cantril, died at 11:30 Sunday night, and Elmer Franklin, who died at 4:30 Monday morning, Riley Wollman was seriously burned.
