People of Bentonsport and vicinity were sadly shocked last week by the news of the disappearance of rural mail carrier Cal Corns, who left his home on Saturday and has not since been heard from, except a letter to his wife mailed on the day he left home, Saturday, Feb. 22. The letter mailed at Fairfield on Saturday ws receivd by Mrs. Corns at her home in Bentonsport on the following Tuesday.

When he left home on Saturday he notified his family that he was going to Des Moines to attend a convention on American Legion, he being a member and former commander of the Bonaparte post.

The letter which Mrs. Corns received said he was leaving home, would not return and there would be no use to look for him. His relatives are at a los to understand his reasons for resigning his good position and deserting his happy family, wife and five children. In a few more years he could have retired on pension. His regular pay check was about $85 every two weeks.

Mrs. Corns took her letter to Sheriff Pickard at Keosauqua and requested him to institute a search for her husband. The news of his disappearance was broadcast by radio, with a request that the authorities be notified of his wherabouts; but at this writing he has not been located.
