Man Killed In Collision

Terry Louth, 20, Birmingham, escaped injury Thursday afternoon when the school bus he was driving was involved in a fatal accident on Highway 150 two miles south of Hazelton.

Michael Reid, 21, rural Cedar Rapids, was killed in the collision. His father, Richard Reid, 44, was taken to an Oelwein hospital for treatment of injuries.

The Iowa Highway Patrol said Reid's northbound station wagon pulling a boat, crossed the center line and collided headon with the bus.

The accident occurred about 3 p.m. Witnesses said the station wagon struck with such force that it went under the bus, breaking both the front and rear axles.

Louth, an employe of the Watkins Body Co., Keosauqua, was driving one of three used school buses to Keosauqua. They had been traded by the Turkey Valley Community School District.

The other drivers, Greg Watkins, Iowa City, and Frank Jameson, were ahead of Louth when the accident occurred. Willis Watkins, owner of the body company, said the bus was damaged beyond its worth.
