Birthday Celebration.
**Handwritten: Great grand-mother B 18 10Tuesday the 16th of August, 1892 was celebrated by the relatives of Mrs. Samuel Slaughter, it being the old lady's eighty-second birthday. About 10 o'clock, a.m. the carriages drew up to the pleasant country homestead, and as sister's children, grand children and great grand children, with other relatives entered the hospitable home, the surprise and pleasure if dear grandma seemed complete. There were about forty persons present, including four generations, the nearest relatives being two sisters, three daughters, one son, sixteen grand children and three great grand children with their many descendants living at a distance who could not be present. The friends did not forget to bring well filled baskets, the contents of which were spread upon much extended tables in the yard. And the activity shown in disposing of the bountiful repast spoke well for the culinary skill of the ladies. There were a number of presents, the chief one perhaps, being a nice willow rocker in which the aged mother sat in state as central figure, (her head crowned with silvery locks and wearing the pretty cap sent by a daughter in Wayne county,) with the relatives grouped around her when our artist transferred the scene for the future contemplation of friends, In the construction and disposal of several gallons of ice cream and in social converse the later hours were most pleasantly passed and as friend after friend took leave, we lingered not to think probably never again in this world will the same number meet, but each bade a cheerful adieu to grandmother and the loving daughter who is so dutiful caring for her, taking with us pleasant memories of the day. A PARTICIPANT.
