Erma Bonds School Head

Farmington Instructor to Succeed Mrs. Cornelia C. Hodges as County Superintendent Jan. 1.

Miss Erma Bonds, who has been a normal training teacher in the Farmington high school since 1928 and who holds two college degrees and a superintendent's certificate, was elected county superintendent of Van Buren county schools at a meeting of the presidents of the school districts of the county at the court house in Keosauqua Wednesday afternoon.

The new superintendent will take office on January 1, succeeding Mrs. Cornelia C. Hodges who has held the position since 1927 and who resigned recently in order to assume new duties as president of the Eau Clair Business college of Eau Claire, Wis.

Miss Bonds has had a number of years of experience as a rural teacher, a grade school teacher, and a high school teacher. She was awarded the degree of bachelor of science in education in 1927 and the degree of master of arts in education in 1940.

Another candidate for the position for county superintendent was Rollo E. Newcomb of Mt. Sterling, who also possess all the qualifications for the office.
