Golden Wedding.
Fifty years ago last Friday, October 28, 1898, at Mechanicsburg, Ohio, occurred the marriage of Hannah Jones to Thos. H. Hopkins. In celebration of that event there assembled at the home of these worthy citizens of Bonaparte, last Friday all of the children who could possibly be present and spent the day most happily with their parents whose good fortune allowed them the privilege of half a century of wedded life.
A bounteous spread was provided at noon, but before partaking of this, their new son-in-law, J. M. Sweeney; made the presentation speeches for the following: Engraved spoon bearing dates of marriage and of golden wedding, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Meek; Gold chain and Masonic charm, for Mr Hopkins, children; Gold broach, bearing the dates "1848-1898" for Mrs. Hopkins, children; $10.00 in gold, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Sweeney.
Those present were Mrs. H. J. Kerr and Mrs. H. (or B.?) J. Kerr [transcribed as written], and baby, Butte City, Mont., T. H. Hopkins, Jr., and family, Keokuk, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Sweeney and son, Bonaparte, C. B. Hopkins, Bonaparte, and Louis Saar, Bonaparte.
