Monday February 21st, 1853And now comes into open Court Samuel V. Catcott a Native of Ireland and makes application to become a citizen of the United States and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that said applicant was under the age of eighteen years when he came to the United States, and it further appearing by the testimony of Charles Porter that said applicant has resided within the jurisdiction of the United States for five years last past and for one year within the State of Iowa, and that he is a citizen of good character and attached to the principles of the Government of the United States. Thereupon came the said Samuel V Catcott and made oath that he will support the Constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all fidelity and allegiance to every foreign Prince Potentate Power State or Sovereignty and particularly to that of Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland of whom he was heretofore a subject. Therefore it is ordered that the said Samuel V. Catcott be admitted a citizen of the United States and that he receive his certificate accordingly.
[Note: this is my ggg grandfather. This document is a little misleading as he was not born in Ireland, but in England.]
