WIlliam Mort 103 Tuesday

Cantril -- An open house will be held Sunday for William Mort, who will celebrate his 103rd birthday anniversary Tuesday, June 1.

The affair will be held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edna Wilson, his only child, with whom he has been making his home. A basket dinner will be served and an invitation has been extended to everyone who cares to attend.

Mort was seriously ill during the winter, but is now recovered and says he "wants to keep on living." He appears much younger than 103 and has only a small amount of gray in his dark brown hair. Age, however, as impaired his sight and hearing.

Each Saturday he is taken to the barber shop for a shave and they are spends the afternoon reminiscing with friends. He still chews tobacco -- a habit he formed when he was 13 years. He also likes chocolate candy.

He attributes his longevity to never having allowed himself to worry. He enjoys listening to the radio and talking over bygone days with friends.

A few years ago he took an airplane ride on his birthday, but doesn't plan to take another.

He is still interested in politics and is looking forward to the June primaries and fall election. He has always voted the Republican ticket.
