A Pleasant Occasion.

One of the prettiest events of the holiday season was the New Year’s Party in the form of a surprise given by the Jewels Class of the Presbyterian Sunday School and their members to their teacher, Mrs. M. D. Hope.

This class is composed of 25 little boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 7 years. Mrs. Hope received an invitation to a New Year’s Party to be held in the basement of the Presbyterian Church on Saturday afternoon, December 31.

Upon her arrival she was greeted by the children and their mothers, who informed her that she was the guest of honor. The dining room was decorated in the holiday colors. After a social hour in which games were played and visiting enjoyed, all were invited to be seated at the two long tables, which were beautiful in their decorations. The teacher and class were at one table and the S. S. Supt. Mrs. John McKee, and the mothers at the other.

In the center of the Class table was a large Jack Horner Pie with red ribbon streamers running to each place, which was also marked by a tiny cake with a little red candle burning brightly upon it, and on each side of the Pie was a glass candlestick with large candles burning. The mothers table was similar to the other with the exception of the Pie.

Refreshments consisting of ice cream, cakes, animal cookies were served, after which each one at the Class table was told to take hold of their ribbon and all pull at once, when lo, and behold, that Jack Horner Pie was opened and each child received a souvenir of the occasion, and Mrs. Hope drew a beautiful sterling silver spoon, the gift of the class and their mothers. It was indeed an enjoyable occasion from start to finish, and showed much labor and thoughtfulness on the part of the mothers, and was appreciated by Mrs. Hope more than words can express.

Those present were; Mrs. Hope; Mrs. John McKee, Supt.; Mrs. Bert Gould, Marjorie and Ruth; Mrs. Ellen Nelson, Rex and Carl; Mrs. Grace Nelson and Edward; Mrs. Ella Forbes and Bordman; Mrs. Fred Workman and Katherine; Mrs. Verne Hall and Harold; Mrs. Mas. Harness and Richard; Mrs. Guy Bailey and Birdie; Mrs. Chas Bailey and Robert; Mrs. Reuben Johnston, Mary Beulah and Glenn; Mrs. Bert Cross and Mildred; Mrs. Clem Hootman and Reva; Mrs. Dale Bonnett and Mildred; Mrs. Will Spees, Coyner and Julia; Esther Hootman.
