GOLDEN WEDDING

The Golden Wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Topping was observed at the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Dille in Birmingham, Tuesday, April 2, with a family dinner at noon and open house from 2 to 5 p. m.

Rosena E., daughter of William and N. and Elizabeth Barker Sherod was united in marriage to Samuel F., son of John and Margaret Addy Topping at the home of the bride’s parents, south of Birmingham, April 2, 1896, Rev. Hiram Gilbert, performing the ceremony.

Their entire married life has been spent in the Winchester and Birmingham community. They have four children, Clem, wife and two daughters, Dorothy and Charlotte of Stockport, Gertrude Dille, husband and three children, Lloyd, Kenneth and Bette Jayne, John, wife and six children, Alice, Doris, William, Janet, Robert and Margaret; Mildred at home, all of Birmingham. All of whom attended the dinner together with a brother and sister of Mrs. Topping, viz. Mr. and Mrs. Clate Sherod of Kilbourne and Mrs. Ella Bales of Covina, Calif., and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Maggie Sherod of Keosauqua, all three of whom attended the wedding 50 years ago. Rev. H. C. Irvine was also a dinner guest.

Mr. and Mrs. Topping are members and regular attendants of the Birmingham Presbyterian church, he being an elder.

The home was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and many friends and relatives numbering more than 100, called to enjoy the happy occasion with them and wish them many more years of happiness. The guest book was in charge of two grandchildren, Charlotte and Alice Topping and two other granddaughters, Dorothy and Doris Topping poured and served the golden wedding anniversary cake.
