George Walter, a.k.a. Jacob George Walter (Simon, Wilhelm) was born May 27, 1799 in Baltimore County, Maryland , and died March 04, 1884 in Winchester, Iowa . He married Appalonia Martin September 12, 1827 in Randolph County, (West) Virginia , daughter of Henry Martin.
George Walter, also known as Johann Georg Walter on his baptismal certificate, is the son of “Simon and Annamarya Walther.” in Baltimore County, Maryland. He came to the Cove District with the family. George grew up there, married Appalonia Martin, and lived on the Stone Jug Farm in Randolph County, Virginia (now Barbour County, West Virginia.) He first farmed on land sold to him by his father Simon . Simon and Ann Marie Walter sold the Stone Jug Farm to George Walter on June 29, 1837.
George was one of the original trustees of Mt. Morris Methodist Episcopalian Church, which was built in 1839 at a cost of $200. Other trustees included William Walter, Levi Miller, and John Holbert. He served in a number of positions of responsibility in the Mt. Morris Church, including as Sunday School Librarian in 1848.
George and Appalona lived on the Stone Jug Farm until after 1850, when Simon Walter died. He moved to Iowa, probably in the early 1850's, and settled along the Des Moines River probably near the town of Bentonsport, Van Buren County, Iowa.
