I have an ancestor who was tried and sentenced to hang at mankato, mn. after the sioux uprising of 1862. His sentence was remitted and he, along with 303 other prisoners were sent to Fort Kearney/ Camp McClellan in Davenport, Iowa to a prison there. In 1866 the prisoners who survived their three year imprisonment were pardoned and sent to Niobrara, Nebraska. Does anyone know who I can contact about info regarding the prisoners at this camp? I would like to know if he died in the prison or if I should continue my search for him in Nebraska. thanks!
