Your query asks for information on Luther McClain who married Mary Comstock and had son William Irwin McClain (born) 8 Apr 1864. Mary’s parents were Jerry Comstock b. Ky and Charity Thrasher b. Springfield Ohio.
Mary was probably born by 1850 though you gave no birth date for her. She could have been 14 when William was born. According to Familysearch.org, Jeremiah Comstock and Charity Thrasher were married on 26 Feb 1857. Charity was born on 24 Aug. 1838 according to an anonymous familysearch.org source. She would have been 19 when married. If she was the mother of Mary she would have to have had Mary much earlier perhaps at age 12-14. Although this scenario is possible it could be tested if the 1860 census or 1850 census revealed these families. The Comstocks have strong associations with Cedar County, Iowa prior to moving west to Missouri (Polk, Sullivan, MO by 1880).
Do you have any documents or other information supporting Williams parentage or birthdate? I found his death certificate on line in Missouri but he was 95 years old and whoever was an informant had no firsthand knowledge of his history.
