Sebastian Wick, son of John C. and Mary Holly was born at Burlington, Iowa, Dec. 2, 1854 and died at his home in Afton, Iowa, March 5, 1923, aged 68 years, 3 months and 3 days.

He was united in marriage to Addie Long, Oct. 24, 1875. To this union were born ten children, all of whom are living except one, Jessie Alice, who died in infancy. The children are: Leroy E. Wick of Afton, M Arthur Wick, Turner, Ore; Myrtle F. Lonnecker, Silverton, Ore.; Leonard R. Wick, Kimball, S. Dak.; Clara M. Moore, Mt Vernon, S. Dak.; R. Ernest Wick, Mitchell, S. Dak.; Robert T. Wick, Afton; Walter E. Wick, Mitchell, S. Dak.; and Lester Y. Wick, Kimball, S. Dak.

He also leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, Addie Wick, and four brothers and one sister. Geo. Wick, Dayton, Wash.; Wm. Wick, Le Mars, Ia., Samuel Wick, Des Moines, Iowa; Thomas Wick Van Wert, Iowa and Mrs. Eva Shelton, Le Mars, Iowa. Also twelve grandchildren and a number of other relatives, besides a host of friends.

Early in boyhood he moved with his parents to a farm in Union county. His father was one of the early pioneers, there being only six other families in the county at that time. The deceased has been a resident of Union county the greater part of his life. His early boyhood days were that of hard toil, starting at the age of seven doing plowing with an ox team. His older brothers were serving in the Union army and his father confined to his bed.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 at the Evangelical church, conducted by Elder N.J. Wood of the old school Baptist church and interment in Greenlawn cemetery.
