December 6, 1926 - September 18, 2012Lucille Wilson, 85, of Afton, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Afton Care Center in Afton. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Afton United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris, Pastor Joel Sutton and Rev. Tom Shinkle will officiate. Open visitation will be 2-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012, with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in CRESTON. Memorials are to the Afton Methodist Church or Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.
Evelyn Lucille Wilson was born December 6, 1926 in Union County, Iowa to Viola Mae (Adams) Fluckey and Chester Carroll Fluckey. She graduated from Afton High School in 1944. On November 4, 1948, Lucille was united in marriage to Wendell Gene Wilson at her parents' home in Afton. Lucille was a lifetime resident of the Afton area and was a member of the Afton United Methodist Church where she served as the organist for 60 years, director of vacation bible school, and was a member of the UMW (United Methodist Women). She was the Secretary at the Creston Farmers Co-op, a 4-H leader, a Wallaces Farmer Master Farm Homemaker of 1986, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, PEO Hospital Auxiliary, FFA Honorary Chapter Degree, Past President of PTO and also served for 18 years on the Creston School Board, as well as, the Union County Farm Bureau board.
Lucille is survived by her husband Wendell Wilson of Afton, son Steve (wife Cindy) Wilson of Afton, daughter Sheila (husband Kenny) Brown of Afton, foreign exchange student Susanne (husband Ecki) Mross of Dorsdef, Germany, one sister Maurine Vogel of Bella Vista, Ark., her brother in-law Duane Wilson of Creston, six grandchildren Jeremy Wilson of Bloomington, Ill., Jarrad (wife Ashley) Wilson of Creston; Dusty (wife Lisa) Brown of Afton, Megan Brown of Pella, Eike Mross and Jannes Mross, both of Dorsdef, Germany and two great-grandchildren Samuel Simpson and Drake Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Lauren Wilson, sister in-law Viva Tuttle and her niece Marsha Jeter.
