Oren LeRoy Jeter, 87, of Creston, died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston.

Celebration of Life services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highway 34 and 25 in Creston. Pastor Delores Doench will officiate.

Burial will be at Grove Chapel Cemetery, southwest of Creston.

Open visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Powers Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Platte Center Presbyterian Church.

Oren LeRoy Jeter, son of William Everett Jeter and Nola Florence (Gripp) Jeter, was born July 28, 1928 in his parent's home near Thayer, Iowa. He graduated from Creston High School in 1946.

On August 27, 1948, Oren married Mara Lou Brown at her parent's home in Platte Township and started farming in Ringgold County before buying a farm in Union County. Oren was also a rural mail carrier for many years, retiring in 1993. They moved to Creston in 2006. Oren was a Platte Center Presbyterian Church member, trustee and Youth Fellowship Sponsor, Farm Bureau member, part of the Peppy Steppers Square Dance group, and Union County Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mara Lou Jeter of Creston; sisters, Florence Dick of Gilbert, Arizona, and Shirley Ruth Ide of Creston; daughter, Kathy (husband Steve) Francis and son, Duane (wife Lori) Jeter, all of Creston; grandchildren, Angie (Francis) Waddington, husband Richard of Oskaloosa, and Tracy Francis, wife Kristy Lee, of Granby, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Carter and Morgan Waddington; brother-in-law, Harlan Brown of Creston, sisters-in-law, Sharon Sobotka of Diagonal, Sheryl Paulus of Creston, and Dixie Dolezal of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Oren was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Gary Lee, brother Earl Jeter and brothers-in-law, Basil Dick, Frank Ide, Bud Brown, Butch Sobotka; and a sister-in-law, Lila Brown.
