Doris M. Lundquist, 90, of Creston, formerly of Thayer, died Jan. 27, 2013, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Cromwell. The Rev. Dan Moore will officiate. Burial will in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34. Memorials may be given to Cromwell Congregational United Church of Christ. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Doris Marguerite Smith, daughter of Ola Mae (Moon) and William Pearl Smith, was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Cromwell.

Doris graduated from Cromwell High School in 1939. She then attended Creston Junior College and got a bachelor’s degree from Drake University in elementary education.

Doris taught school at St. Charles until she married Ray Lundquist on Nov. 3, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

After marriage, they lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, until Ray was transferred to San Diego, Calif., for the military.

After Ray was discharged, they moved southwest of Thayer, where they farmed for 51 years.

Doris began teaching again in 1957 at Thayer Consolidated School and later at the Lorimor Center of East Union. They retired in 1985, and then moved into Creston in 1997.

She had a second career working at Van Gelder’s Clothing.

Doris was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Cromwell, Thayer Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Linda (husband Jerry) Huffman and Diane Lundquist, all of Creston, and Patricia Laird of Earlham; son Ralph (wife Judy) Lundquist of Solon; grandchildren, Jason (wife Kathy) Kendrick, Justin (wife Sarah) Kendrick, Josh Kendrick (fiancée Hannah Finehout), Brian (wife Tammy) Laird, Nathan (wife Jessica) Laird, Jessica (husband Mike) Bolden and Shannon (husband Kelly) Griffith; stepgrandchildren, Rick (wife Robyn) Laird, Kevin (wife Tracey) Laird and Travis (Ashley Shaw) Brown; 12 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray in 2009; son-in-law Dale Laird; brother-in-law Carl Lundquist; and sister-in-law Maxine Lundquist.
