Lottie Eunice Elliott
Lottie Eunice Mateer, eldest daughter of Henry Newton and Angeline Holt Mateer, was born April 10, 1889 at Afton, Iowa and departed this life November 7, 1966 at the age of 77 years, 6 months 27 days.
One December 25, 1906 she was united in marriage to Oscar M. Killion. To this union four children were born, Alice and Ruth died in infancy. Mr. Killion died in 1920, leaving Clyde and Howard.
In 1922 she was married to Charles Arthur Elliott, and to this union three children were born, Charlotte, Calvin and Lou Ella.
From early childhood Lottie had attended the Evangelical Church and became a member while quite young. She served as Sunday school teacher and Superintendent, and was president of the Ladies’ Aid Society for many years. After the Elliotts moved to Dodge Township, she took an active part in the Dodge Center church. When the Evangelical U.B. and Presbyterian churches united, she became a member of the Presbyterian Church in Afton. She loved the church and took an interest in it as long as her health permitted.
To know Lottie was to love her – she was a good neighbor and was always doing for those she loved and for any one in need of help. She was most happy when she could get her children, her bothers, sisters, nieces and nephews together at her house for a family dinner.
When illness struck both Mr. and Mrs. Elliott, they moved to the Crest Haven nursing home in Creston where Mr. Elliott passed away on January 3rd, 1966.
Mrs. Elliott leaves to mourn her loss 3 sons, Clyde Killion of Des Moines, Howard Killion, of Ontario, Calif.: Calvin Elliott of Iowa Falls, Iowa; 2 daughters; Louella Pattenaude of Taylor, Michigan, and Charlotte Stovall of Spokane, Washington, and a step-daughter, Helena Applegate of Creston; 2 sisters, Bessie Nye of Afton and Florence Gripp of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
