Evelyn Marie Early 1909-2003

Evelyn Marie Early, 93, Scottsbluff, died Jan. 23, 2003. Her funeral service was held Sunday at The First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. Following the service, Eastern Star rites were conducted by the Dome Rock Chapter No. 215. Interment was conducted Monday at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. The Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the church or the Dome Rock Eastern Star Chapter.

Evelyn was born Oct. 22, 1909 in Lorimor, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip and Clara Alice (Sweet) Stalcup. She was raised within this community of loving Christian heritage.

Evelyn completed her education through high school and normal school upon which time she became a country school teacher in Union and Madison Counties.

Evelyn married Harry Eugene Early on May 7, 1932 at Grant City, Iowa and then traveled to Rawlins, Wyo. to start their new life together. Some months later, the couple moved to the panhandle of western Nebraska where they raised their family.

With various members of her family, Evelyn traveled to Cuba in the 1950?s, as well as to Canada, Bermuda, Australia and throughout the United States.

Survivors include her daughter, Rev. Shirley Jean Riggs of Denver, Colo.; son, Dr. Kendall Stewart Early of Sheridan, Wyo.; son-in-law, Charles A. Riggs of Denver; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.

Evelyn Marie Early, 93, of Scottsbluff, and formerly of the Panhandle, died Jan 23, 2003. She was born Oct 22, 1909 at Lorimor, Iowa the daughter of Phillip and Clara Alice (Sweet)
Stalcup. She became a country school teacher in Union and Madison Counties. At 22, she met Harry Eugene Early of Afton, Iowa, a town thirteen miles from Lorimor. Marriage on
May 7, 1932 at Grant City, Iowa.

Her parents, husband, two sisters, and one brother preceded her in death.

Her funeral service was Jan. 26 at The First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff.

Interment was Jan. 27 at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. The Jolliffe Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
