Sarah Fenner was born near Urichsville, Tuscarawas county, Ohio, November 20, 1842, and died at her home near Lorimor, Iowa, March 30, 1914, after a very short illness, her age being 71 years, 4 months and 10 days.

The deceased, when about 2 years old came with her parents to Agency, Iowa. Her father Joseph R. Fenner died January 1, 1845, leaving her mother a widow with a familly of small children. They became scattered, Sarah making her home for about fifteen years before her marriage, with a family by name of W. S. Carter near Ottumwa.

She was united in marriage to Dan Van Ness Groesbeck, near the city of Ottumwa, March 5, 1868, and came to Union county, Iowa, settling at the present family residence. Here by toll and frugality a pleasant home was made. She was a great lover of flowers, her home, every nook and corner in her garden she brightened with their beauty.

Four children came to bless their home, Louise Juliet, Franklin Herman, Benjamin Warren and Arthur Hugh, the family remaining unbroken until the mother was called home, all the children being present in her last hour.

Mrs. Groesbeck with her husband accepted Christ as her personal Savior in December 1879 and they became members of the Baptist church. She was strong in her faith, and an active worker. the last few years she was confined to her home owing to ill health.

Funeral services were held at her late home, Wednesday April 1, conducted by the Rev. Orr Campbell, after which she was laid to rest in the Ashland cemetery, known as the Groesbeck cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

We mourn but not without hope.
