Reeve, G H Gail Hillard -
Funeral services for G.H. Reeve, age 84, of Lenox, were held
Thursday, April 24, 2003 at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox
with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. He died on Monday, April
21, 2003 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.
Interment was held in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in his name.
Arrangements were by Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Gail Hillard Reeve was born August 19, 1918, in the Kent
area, the son of Jocab Hayden Reeve and Nellie Kilgore Reeve. He
grew up in the Lenox area where he attended rural school, with the
last two years of school near Creston. After school, he worked for
area farmers until he met Neva McKinney, who would later
become his wife. To this loving union seven children were born,
Gailard, Jerry, Joan, Darrell, Allen, Tena and Darla.
In 1941, G.H. went to work for the railroad in Creston as a
fireman. He later became an engineer, a position he would hold for
35 1/2 years. During this time, he worked for the C.B. & Q.
Railroad, the Burlington Railroad and later the Burlington
Northern Railroad, retiring in 1978. G.H. and Neva moved from
the farm into Lenox. G.H. loved the outdoors, especially hunting.
He also worked as a mechanic one winter. During their retirement,
G.H. and Neva enjoyed traveling to Canada a few times. In their
younger years, he and Neva enjoyed attending the local dances in
surrounding communities.
G.H. had been a member of the United Methodist Church as
a boy; he was a Mason at the Camby Lodge in Cromwell; a
member of the Eagles Lodge in Creston and the Brotherhood of
Railroad Engineers.
Left to cherish G.H.'s memory are his loving wife Neva of
Lenox; seven children, Gailard Reeve and wife Dee of Des
Moines; Jerry Reeve of Lenox; Joan Davis and husband Larry of
Scranton; Darrell Reeve of Creston; Allen Reeve and wife Katie
Temple of Runnells; Tena Reeve of Coon Rapids and Darla Davis
and husband Bill of Irwin, Mo., twenty-two grandchildren and
over twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Preceding G.H. in death were his parents, Joab and Nellie;
three brothers, Cleo, Artie and LeRoy Reeve; and four sisters,
Nomi Scofield, Ethel Baylef, Jenny Dalberg and Fern Hall.
