Helen Hayes, 92, of Creston, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Fr. Leonard Kenkel will celebrate.

Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Creston.

Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 12th with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston.

Helen G. Miller, daughter of William A. Miller and Gertrude (O'Connell) Miller, was born January 3, 1920 at Prescott, Iowa.
She graduated from Lenox High School in 1938.

On July 9, 1940, Helen married L. Glenn Hayes in Lenox, Iowa. They lived in Creston all of their married lives. Helen was a homemaker.

Helen was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston, the Catholic Daughters of America, the St. Malachy PTA, Crest Area For Life, the Diocese Catholic Council of Women, and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Veterans.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jacqueline Gephart of San Diego, Calif., Betty (husband Richard) Baker of Creston and Mary Lynn (husband Arlin) Beemer of Mason City; four sons, David Hayes of San Diego, Calif., Bill (wife Janet) Hayes of Afton; Mark (wife Carol) Hayes and James (wife Virginia) Hayes, both of Creston; 32 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Miller and Frances Miller, both of Fort Calhoun, Neb.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glenn in 2001, a daughter, Anita Thomas in 2011, two sons-in-law, Bill Gephart and Dale Thomas; two brothers, Bernard and Vincent Miller; two sisters, Rita Miller and Agnes Brokaw, a sister-in-law, Ruby Miller and a brother-in-law, June Brokaw. ~ The Powers Funeral Home, Creston, Iowa March 2012.
