Those left to honor Rollan's memory are his 2 sons, Richard (Cathy) Whittlesey of Fort Collins, Colorado and David E. Whittlesey of Newton; daughter, Diane K. (Ron) Marvelli of Newton; his 11 grandchildren, Kristin, Mark, Paige, Peter, Shane, Shad, Jason, Ryan, Eddie, Holly, and Heather; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Hazel (Balius) Whittlesey; wife, Fern in 2001; 2 brothers; 2 daughters-in-law; a grandson, Corey Whittlesey; and a sister in infancy.

Rollan was a graduate of Shannon City High School in 1936 in Shannon City, Iowa. Rollan was a District Agent for Northwestern Mutual Life for 20 years, retiring in 1980. He was also a lifelong farmer.

Rollan was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Wittemberg Church, past President of the Newton Chamber of Commerce, Past Master of the Wittemberg Grange, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1655. He served his country in the U.S. Army/Air Force in WWII. Not only was farming a career it was also a hobbie.

Memorials to the Congregational United Church of Christ or Progress Industries may be left at funeral home.

Note: Wife Fern was the daughter of Roy Harold and Zilphia (Brown) Porter
