Lyle Adam Fluckey, 94, of Arispe, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Powers Funeral Home 612 North Dodge in Afton. Pastor Lila Green will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Lyle Adam Fluckey, son of Harley and Floy Fluckey, was born October 14, 1919 at home in rural Afton. He graduated from Arispe High School in 1937.

On September 28, 1940, Lyle married Esther Dobson in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. They lived on and helped with the family farm and then moved to their Arispe farm in 1942. Lyle farmed all of his life. Lyle was active in the community holding positions as the mayor of Arispe and on the school board. He bowled for many years on a team in Creston. He was a member of the Shannon City Community Church. They continued to farm until health problems forced him to retire. After he retired, he became active in making gorgeous handcrafted items, including many wood work items and cross-stitch pictures which he shared with family and friends. Lyle also enjoyed feeding and watching his many goldfinches and feeding the cats that would only appear when he fed them.

Survivors include his children: Janice (husband Gary) Matson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sharon (husband Red) Cox of West Des Moines, IA, Leslie Fluckey (wife Hayley) of Algonquin, Illionois, and Carolyn Bollman of Creston; six grandchildren, Melissa Stenberg, Mike and Mark Matson, Erin Miller, and Jason and Shawn Fluckey; 10 great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Esther and a sister, Ilene Hohneke of Albia, IA.
