Killed at Farm

Orley H. Martin, 77, of Creston was killed in an accident at his farm, about 3 ½
miles northeast of Kent, Tuesday afternoon. The accident was discovered about 4 p.m.

Mr. Martin was killed while operating a crawler-type tractor, hauling away some trees. Sheriff Don Loy said he was pulling a tree with a tractor attached to the tractor when the roots of the tree dug into the ground. The tree was pulled over and struck Mr. Martin on the head. The tractor continued on about 75 feet before Mr. Martin fell to the ground and the left track of the tractor ran over his body as the tractor turned.

Mr. Martin's funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist church here. Rev. K. Wayne Hoehns, the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. His body is at the Keating-Lindsay funeral home here.

His family said a memorial fund has been established for the First United Methodist church. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin, who lived at 1103 north Division street, was a retired automobile dealer and farmer. He had been in the automobile business in Creston until retiring in 1955. He was a lifetime resident of Creston.

Orley H. Martin was born in Union county, March 9, 1899. He was the son of Henry and Amelia Knauss Martin. He was married in Creston, on March 14, 1925 to Myrtle Wycoff, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carol Hunt of Creston; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Elma Herron of Springdale, Ark.; and a brother, Harry Martin of Creston. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Martin was a member of the First United Methodist church and of the Creston elks lodge.
