Injuries are Fatal To Art Petersohn, 32

Broken Cable Clamp Hits His Temple, Causing Skull Fracture.

Art Petersohn, 32, a caterpillar tractor driver for the county highway department was fatally injured yesterday afternoon when a clamp on a cable with which he was pulling down a tree on a clearing and grubbing project in Platte township broke, sending a piece flying into the cab of his machine and striking him in the temple.

The accident happened about 1:33 o'clock yesterday afternoon near the Frank Schofield farm. He remained conscious and was brought to the office of a Creston physician for emergency treatment. The gash caused by the blow was treated and Petersohn sent to his home. Later in the afternoon he began to chill and become more seriously ill. He was taken to Greater Community hospital, where he died at 5 o'clock. Death was due to a skull fracture.

Three Years for County

Mr. Petersohn was a county employee for the past three years and was assisting with work on the WPA clearing project on county route "B" in Platte township preparatory to the start of grading on that route this spring. Two trees slated for removal had become entangled, according to County engineer Fred Sarvis, and the crew had two cables attached to the tractor in a effort to pull them apart. Jack Hunt, grader operator for Petersohn, said the cables had hardly tightened when the clamp broke. Petersohn was backing back and was struck near the eye by the flying piece.

Arthur William Petersohn was born October 30, 1906, at Hubbsrd, Taylor county, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Petersohn, and was married September 7, 1934, at Fayetteville, Tenn., to Nancy Jane Wilhelm. Surviving are his parents, his wife, two daughters, Arthura Jane, 4; Barbara Jean, 7; a son william Henry 2; a brother Leroy Petersohn of 212 North Walnut street and a sister, Mrs. Boss Bailey of north of Thayer
