Bradley, Lyman Paul -
Lyman Paul Bradley was born March 29, 1914, at Creston, Iowa the son of Hubert and Frances (Pontow) Bradley. He attended St. Malachy's School in Creston.
On August 21, 1945, Lyman was united in marriage to Coletta Baker at St. Malachy's Church in Creston. To their union was born eight children: Raymond, Norbert, Bernita, Loretta, Marilyn, Janet, Joyce and Jolene.
Lyman was a lifelong farmer in the Union county area. In addition to his vocation of working with the land and raising livestock, he and Coletta spent much of their time as devoted parents.
He was a former member of the Lenox Community School Board, a Platte Township Trustee and a Platte Township Assessor.
Lyman was a member of Holy Spirit Parrish in Creston and the Knights of Columbus, as well as the Lenox Stock and Saddle Club.
His interest outside of work, church and other activities revolved around the family.
Lyman died Oct. 7, 1996 at his home in rural Kent at the age of 82 years, 6 months, 8 days, where he was surrounded by the love and presence of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Bradley and Frances Bradley Shiffer; step-father Ward Shiffer; brothers Rev. Bede Bradley, Dennis Bradley and Hubert Bradley.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Coletta Bradley of Kent; sons and daughters-in-law: Raymond and Peggy Bradley of
Trenton, Mo., and Norbert and Vera Bradley of Lenox; daughters and sons-in-law: Bernita and Ed Stansberry of Marion, Iowa; Loretta and Roger Hatten of Ida Grove; Marilyn and Ken Martin of Des Moines; Janet and Steve Conner of Creston; Joyce and Mark Woosley of Indianola; and Jolene and Scott Griffith of Prescott; seventeen grandchildren; brother-in-law Leo Baker and wife Donna of Creston; sisters-in-law: Theola Bradley of Afton, Bernadine Bradley of Lenox, Pauline Baker of Afton; Dorothy Ellen Baker of Creston, Catharine Baker Brown of Galesburg, Ill.; and Mary Jean Gebhardt of Van Meter; and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Oct. 10, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Michael Berner, Rev. John Acrea, Rev. Leonard Kenkel and Rev. Dan Siepker.
Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery at Creston. A Wake service and Rosary were held Wednesday evening at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston.
Serving as pallbearers were James Martin, Justin Woosley, Kevin Stansberry, Trevor Conner, Pauley Bradley and Matthew Bradley.
Honorary pallbearers were John Baker, Jim Bradley, Roger Baker, Theresa Luce, Rita Michels, Alicia Hamze, Virginia Berry and Ronald Gebhardt.
Ushers were Donald Bradley, Phillip Bradley, Dick Baker and Damian Baker. Steve Bradley and Patrick Bradley were Lectors.
The Eucharistic Gifts were presented by granddaughters of Lyman Bradley.
Lynn Baker as organist provided accompaniment for Mary Beaman.
Memorials are suggested to St. Malachy's School.
Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Creston was in charge of funeral arrangements.
